Quality Programs, Accreditations
Camtech Laboratory participated in the External Quality Assessment Schemes (EQAS) and Proficiency Testing (PT) programs:
Rejection Criteria
All samples received are inspected and rejected if deemed unsatisfactory according to the following criteria:
- Insufficient sample for analysis
- Unlabeled specimen container / request form
- Sample container leaking / sample not sterile
- Empty sample container / no sample sent
- Sample obtained from wrong patient
- Discrepant details between sample containers and request forms
- Sample sent with no test request
- Wrong sample type / container / preservative / media
- Sample clotted / hemolyzed / blood-stained swab
- Sample not sent on ice (if applicable)
- Illegible details on specimen sample and request forms
Note: HPV swab remains stable for up to 6 days at 40 degree Celsius.

BD Onclarity™ HPV Assay
The BD Onclarity™ HPV Assay detects and identifies 14 high-risk human papillomavirus (HPV) types in a single analysis. The assay is for use in accordance with clinical guidelines and within the scope of local regulatory authorizations as part of a comprehensive approach to cervical cancer screening.
Self-collected Swab for HPV Testing
Specimen type: self-collected vaginal specimen collected with Copan FLOQSwab (Catalog No. 5E089N).
Specimen collection procedure: refer to Instructions for Use (product insert) accompanying the collection kit or [Click Here]
Specimen labelling: swab specimen holder must be clearly labelled with Name, NRIC/Fin/Passport No., Date of Birth, and Date and Time of collection.
Specimen storage: stable for up to 30 days when stored at 2-30°C after collection dry transport, but not more than 6 days exposure at 40°C.
Expected turnaround time: 3-5 working days (Urgent request not available for this test)
Factors known to significantly impact the performance of the test or the interpretation of the results:
- If concentration of blood exceeds 1% (v/v) in a vaginal self-collected sample, there is a likelihood of obtaining a false-negative HPV result.
- False negatives may occur for specimens containing >8% (v/v) mucin, >7% (w/v) Zovirax® (Acyclovir) Cream. And >8% (w/v) clindamycin vaginal cream.
- The effects of other potential variables, such as vaginal discharge, use of tampons, douching, etc. and specimen collection variables, have not been evaluated.
- The BD Onclarity HPV Assay was not evaluated in women with acetic acid, iodine, spermicide, douche, or anti-fungal medications applied within 24 hours of specimen collection.
HPV and Liquid-based Cytology (LBC) Co-testing (SurePath or ThinPrep)#
Specimen type: BD SurePath or ThinPrep vial.
Specimen collection procedure: refer to Instructions for Use (product insert) accompanying the collection kit or [Click Here]
Specimen labelling: specimen vial must be clearly labelled with Name, NRIC/Fin/Passport No., Date of Birth, and Date and Time of collection.
Specimen storage: stable for up to 30 days when stored at 2-30°C after collection.
Expected turnaround time: 5-7 working days (Normal cases); 7-14 working days (Positive cases)

Genetic Testing Services
ABCA4 Single Gene Sequencing
Specimen: 2-4 mL of blood with anticoagulant EDTA
Lab method: Next generation sequencing. Our solution entails a targeted full-genomic sequencing approach that enables deep sequencing of a gene's complete genomic sequence, encompassing its enhancers, promoters, exons, shallow introns and importantly, the deep introns.
Indications for genetic testing:
- Confirmation of clinical diagnosis
- Carrier testing for at-risk family members
- Genetic counseling
- Prenatal diagnosis for known familial mutation
Autosomal recessive Stargardt disease is a juvenile-onset macular dystrophy associated with rapid central visual impairment, progressive bilateral atrophy of the foveal retinal pigment epithelium, and the frequent appearance of yellowish flecks around the macula and/or in the central and near-peripheral areas of the retina.
Urea Cycle Disorder (UCD) Panel
Specimen: 2-4 mL of blood with anticoagulant EDTA
Lab method: Next generation sequencing. The UCD panel encompasses capture probes designed for eight genes, namely ARG1, ASL, ASS1, CPS1, NAGS, OTC, SLC25A13, and SLC25A15. Our solution entails a targeted full-genomic sequencing approach that enables deep sequencing of a gene's complete genomic sequence, encompassing its enhancers, promoters, exons, shallow introns and importantly, the deep introns.
Indications for genetic testing:
- Confirmation of clinical diagnosis
- Carrier testing for at-risk family members
- Genetic counseling
- Prenatal diagnosis for known familial mutation
List of diseases covered by the UCD panel:
Gene | Condition |
---|---|
ARG1 | Argininemia |
ASL | Argininosuccinic aciduria |
ASS1 | Citrullinemia |
CPS1 | Carbamoylphosphate synthetase I deficiency |
NAGS | N-acetylglutamate synthase deficiency |
OTC | Ornithine transcarbamylase deficiency |
